There are numerous wedding planners and companies offering services to help foreign couples get married in Thailand. In most cases, this involves a three to five day stay in Bangkok to deal with all the paperwork involved. However, if you would like to do things more quickly, a Thai-based wedding company can arrange the paperwork in one working day. Not only that, in some cases it is also possible for couples to get legally married in Thailand without the need to go to Bangkok. This service is arranged by the respected Thai wedding planner, Somchit Srimoon (known as ‘Jit’). We asked Jit how the legal wedding service works.
How can you arrange all the paperwork in one day?
We are an established Thai wedding business and we don’t believe in taking short-cuts. Everything is arranged by us in-house, including the translation services. Because everything is in-house and we have no middle-men to deal with, we are in a position to do things more quickly than other companies, especially those based outside of Thailand. Our Thai legal marriage service is carried out strictly in accordance to Thai law. With professional planning, preparation and experience we are able to get all of the legal requirements carried out in one day depending on your nationality. We are 100% Thai owned and this is where we have local advantage over other companies who aren’t able to move as quickly as us because they don’t have the same established procedures in place.
Is this available to all nationalities?
This legal service is available to citizens from many countries including Australia, Britain, Canada, India, New Zealand and United States. We can’t offer a one-day service to all nationalities because of the Thai legal requirements. Please contact us for specialist advice on your situation.
Does this mean my marriage will be legally recognized in my home country?
Yes. We follow all Thai legal procedures and using our service means your marriage will be legally recognized in your home country as well as most countries throughout the world. Many of our couples are of different nationalities or expats working overseas and we are able to handle the legal requirements in each case.
Do wedding couples still have to go to Bangkok?
Normally, but not always. We also offer a complete wedding registration service in Chiang Mai for couples who want to get married in the north of Thailand. This isn’t available to everybody because it depends on whether your home country has a consulate in Chiang Mai. The good news is that many countries do have a consulate in Chiang Mai, including Britain, Canada, India, Sweden and the USA so if you are from one of those countries you may legally get married in Chang Mai without the need to go to Bangkok.
What legal services do you carry out?
We carry out a full legal document marriage service. This means we include as standard everything the wedding couple requires to officially get married, for instance the preparation of the ‘Affirmation of Freedom to Marry’ and all of the legally required translation services and certificates.
Do you provide a service outside of Bangkok and Chiang Mai?
We offer a legal document service in all parts of Thailand. This means you have the correct legal documentation if you want to register your wedding in Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi, Hua Hin, Pattaya or any town in Thailand. If you already have a wedding planner we can liaise with them, no problem. We also work independently with several hotels and resorts that provide wedding services so feel free to contact us with your requirements or questions.
